U.K. Armed Forces Open Ground Close Combat Roles for Women

The U.K. Armed Forces will see women being allowed to serve on the front line in ground close combat roles for the first time, following the recommendation of the Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Nick Carter, that the ban on women serving in ground close combat roles be lifted from this year.

ROK-U.S. Alliance to Deploy THAAD

The Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system will now be deployed to the Republic of Korea, following an agreement between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the United States of America (U.S.). The Alliance decision was recommended by ROK Minister of Defense Han, Min Gu and Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, Combined Forces Command, and U.S. Forces Korea commander, and was approved by the ROK and U.S. governments.

Lockheed Martin to Pursue New Army Missile Defense Sensor

Lockheed Martin has announced that it is responding to a U.S. Army request for a Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS). The industry-wide competition will provide a radar solution that operates in the Army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) network and replaces the current Patriot radar. The new sensor also is required to meet mobility and transportability requirements, and improve reliability, availability and maintainability at a defined cost target.

Boeing KC-46 Pegasus Tanker Completes Milestone C Tests

The U.S. Air Force has announced that the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus program has completed all flight tests required for the Milestone C production decision by offloading 1,500 pounds of fuel to an A-10 Thunderbolt II. The Milestone C decision to begin low-rate initial production is expected in August.

Elbit Systems Receives US$30 Million European Order for Observation Systems

Elbit Systems has announced a contract award worth approximately US$30 million, from a European country for the supply advanced thermal-imaging observation systems that will serve all army command levels, from the dismounted soldier to the headquarters command and will be supplied over a one-year period.
